FOI reference: FOI/18/03026
Date received: 17 October 2018
Date responded: 14 November 2018

Information requested

A 'ball-park figure' for the cost of a passenger lift at a railway station, along the lines of the one at Markinch and/or the one proposed for Kintore.

Response

The cost of a lift installation varies significantly for a variety of reasons but mainly relating to the differing structural, ground conditions and constraints at each site. From our experience over the last few years the costs have a range as summarised below but please be mindful that they are not absolute:-

  • Cost for the design, supply, and installation of the lift mechanisms and enclosure themselves would be in the region of £750,000 to £1.2 million.

  • Cost for design, supply, and installation of lift within existing infrastructure in the region of £2.0 million to £2.7 million.

  • Cost for design, supply and installation of a lift including demolition and installation of new footbridge in the region of £3.7 million to £5.0 million.
